Autism: It’s Not Just What I Have, It’s Who I Am!
I’ve created this site to give the world a window into what autism is like for me, not just as a diagnosis, but as an intricate part of who I am. It’s what makes me unique, gives me a different level of thinking, allows me to spot and appreciate the little details that neurotypical people pass over without a thought, and gives me some added abilities that I’d otherwise likely not have at all or as well. Sure it’s got its complications, its challenges, and its limitations, and yes it can be quite debilitating in some areas (far worse for some people), but there’s a lot of positives usually overlooked by most people. For me, autism is something to be proud of at times, and something to enjoy in certain settings. Being referred to by my friends as “the autistic one” points out my special features and often being relied upon for my “autism bonuses”.
To me, autism isn’t something to be ashamed of, or feel bad about. Being autistic is something to wear proudly as my personality and what makes me stand out for who I am.
